Editing Assets to Define Relevance

Set asset relevancy, scope, importance, and tags to reflect your assessment focus.

Overview

This article explains how to edit one or more assets to define their relevancy, scope, and importance. Marking these attributes ensures that only the right assets are included in your engagement and prioritized appropriately.

1. Open the Assets page

Click the Operations -> Assets icon in the left navigation pane to view all assets in your current engagement.

2. Select the assets to edit

Check the box next to each asset you want to update.
Once selected, an Edit asset details icon will appear at the top center of the page:

💡 You can use this same process to edit a single asset or multiple assets at once.

3. Click Edit asset details

This opens a panel at the top of the screen where you can adjust asset-level settings:

4. Update the following fields

  • Relevancy
    Choose Relevant or Not Relevant.

    • Relevant assets are considered part of your organization and will be scanned.

    • Not Relevant assets are excluded from the risk analysis.

  • Scope
Choose In Scope or Out of Scope.

    • In Scope assets are actively included in the assessment.

    • Out of Scope assets are excluded, even if they fall under a broader domain or IP range.

  • Importance
Set the level of importance (1–5) using the blue box indicator. More boxes = more business impact.

Importance can be set automatically or manually:

    • Automatically calculated — by default, Cye calculates a recommended importance level for each asset, marked with an A icon.

    • Manually set — click a box to set the value yourself. This switches the asset to Manual mode, marked with an M icon. Use Reset to automatic to remove your manual value and let Cye calculate it again.

    • A newly added asset shows empty boxes until Cye’s calculation runs — this can take a few hours. You can set a value manually at any time, even while it’s pending.

    • If you select multiple assets that aren’t all in the same mode, the panel shows Mixed. Setting a value here applies it, as a manual value, to every selected asset.

  • Tags
Select existing tags or create new ones to help organize or flag assets for tracking.

5. Click Update

Save your changes by clicking the Update button:

Important notes

  • Changes to scope and relevancy directly affect whether an asset is scanned or included in dashboards.

  • Always double-check engagement selection if you're applying scope settings — it’s easy to miss.

  • This process is critical for keeping your assessment focused and relevant.

Wrap-up / Next Steps

Defining asset relevance, scope, and importance helps you keep assessments clean and actionable. It’s a fast way to bring clarity to large environments — and to make sure Cye platform reflects your real-world priorities.
